How To Set MTN APN on Android

You will need to configure MTN APN settings on your Android phone if you want to use the phone to browse the internet. If you configure the wrong settings, you might not be able to browse the internet with your MTN line.

In this tutorial, I will guide you on how to set MTN apn on Android using Infinix hot 2 dual SIM phone, which runs Android lollipop 5.1.1 operating system.

To configure your MTN APN settings manually, follow the steps below:

==> Launch the “Settings” app ( Not “Google Settings”)

==> Tap on “More”

==> Tap on “Cellular Networks”

==> Tap on “Access Point Names”

==> Tap on any existing APN to edit it or tap the + icon to create a new APN.

The basic things you need to enter are the : name, apn, username and password as below:

Name: MTN Nigeria

APN : web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net

Username : web

Password : web

You can leave Proxy, port, server, mmsc etc as they are.

When you are done, tap on the three dots at the top right corner of the screen and tap SAVE.

Thereafter, you can select the MTN APN from the list of APNs to set it as the default.

NB: If your Android phone is running older versions of Android OS, try navigating as indicated below:

“Settings” > “Mobile Networks” > “Mobile Data” > “Access Point Names”

“Settings” > “Wireless and Networks” > “Mobile Networks” > “Access Point Names”

3. Now Use the volume down to scroll to backup and restore

4. Chose backup in next screen and click yes to confirm

5. After the backup is completed boot the good device and copy the backup file to the bricked SD card

6. Insert the SD card in the bricked device and long press volume up + power on then click on backup and restore

7. In the next screen select restore and your bricked device should come back to life.

2nd Method

This method is the most suitable method to unbrick a die hard bricked rooted phone but you need a pc

1. Download pdanet and MTK droid tools on your pc

2. Google Search your device boot.img and download

3. Switch ON your dead phone, don't get vexed if it get stucked at the tecno logo

4. Connect your dead phone to the pc and install pdanet

5. Open the MTK droid tools and extract it's content (maintaining the folder path)

6. Open your extracted MTK droid tools folder and launch MTK droid tool(with a green logo)

7. The software will display your phone details with a yellow box at the bottom ,click root and select yes for any prompt and chill till that box turns green

8. After turning green click on the backup and recovery then chose boot.img

9. Hit on Recovery and Boot then select the boot.img you downloaded for your bricked device type

10. Click yes to confirm any prompt

11 Then you will be asked to boot device into recovery mode just select yes

12. Now your device should be unbricked and you should have a cwm recovery installed

1. Open settings >> Network settings >> Connection

• Keepalive Interval >> type 5
• Keepalive Timeout >> choose 5

connect automatically)

Method 2: Increasing Tweakware Browsing and Downloading speed
If you’re having problem connecting Tweakware VPN for
the first time (keeps authenticating without connecting),
then you will need to update Tweakware server list… Do
this..
• Make sure there is an active internet connection.
• Launch Tweakware VPN.
• Press & hold server list on the home screen to update
server.
• Select any available server on the list displayed.

Alternative method; This can also be done manually by
having to alter the Proxy Host (IP) & Port via settings.. (use
same Ip and Port as seen here). To do this Go to Settings
>> Network settings >> Change Proxy Host (IP) and Port.
